Oracal 651 vs 631 vs 751: which one?
Every vinyl job we ship comes with vinyl SKU call-outs — the specific Oracal grade for each color layer. Three grades cover 95% of work: Oracal 651 (permanent), Oracal 631 (removable), and Oracal 751 (premium cast). Here is when each one wins.
Oracal 651 — permanent calendered
The workhorse. 6-year outdoor life, gloss finish, calendered construction. Good for flat surfaces — windows, smooth walls, vehicle panels with no compound curves. Permanent adhesive; removing it after 6 months will pull paint.
Oracal 631 — removable matte
The wall-decal grade. 3-year indoor life, matte finish, removable adhesive that releases cleanly. Perfect for retail signage, event graphics, anything that needs to come down later without residue.
Oracal 751 — premium cast
The vehicle-wrap grade. 8-year outdoor life, gloss or matte, cast construction (not calendered). Cast vinyl conforms to compound curves without bridging or memory — essential for vehicle wraps, curved surfaces, and bus shelters.
Calendered vs cast — why it matters
Calendered vinyl is rolled into thin sheets; it remembers being flat and tries to lift off compound curves over time. Cast vinyl is poured as liquid and solidifies into its final form — it has no memory and stays where you stick it. Cast costs roughly 3x more.
How we call it out
Every vinyl job delivery includes a vinyl note sheet: Color 1 / PMS 354 C / Oracal 651 #061 Grass green / 30m roll. Your shop assistant pulls the right roll without guessing.
Other Oracal grades we use less often
Oracal 8500 for translucent backlit signs. Oracal 970RA for premium auto-wrap with rapid air channels. Oracal 5600 for reflective signage. Tell us the application when you order and we will recommend the right grade. See vinyl service →
