Monument sign vector files: built for fabrication.
A monument or dimensional sign file needs clean closed vector paths at the sign's real size, fonts outlined, with routed, raised, and applied elements on separate named layers. Dimensional letters and logos are cut and formed straight from those paths, so the outline quality is the finished quality — and a monument sign is built in parts and materials, so layering is what lets the fabricator route, cut, and mount each piece cleanly.
A monument sign is a built object, not a printed sheet — routed faces, raised letters, an applied logo, a backer, often in different materials. The fabricator builds each piece straight from your file, so the file has to be organized the way the sign is assembled. Here is what monument and dimensional sign art needs.

Closed paths, at full scale, outlined
Every element is a clean closed path — no open ends, overlaps, or stray nodes — built at the sign's actual size with all type converted to outlines. Dimensional letters and routed logos are cut and formed from those exact paths, so a messy outline becomes a messy letter. Full scale means proportions and spacing are judged at real size and nothing is guessed at the machine.
Layer by how the sign is built
Put each build element on its own named layer: routed faces, raised or dimensional letters, the applied logo, the backer or base, and any trim. A monument sign often combines materials and processes, and clean layer separation lets the fabricator send each layer to the right tool without untangling one merged outline. It is the same discipline behind any production sign file.
Mind the kerf where parts mate
Wherever pieces are CNC-routed to fit together, the cut removes the width of the tool, so the file should account for kerf where parts mate or inset. Get it wrong and the pieces do not sit flush. The offset logic is the same as any routed job.
ADA and tactile elements
If the monument or its wayfinding includes tactile copy or braille, those follow the ADA figures and belong on their own layers as vector geometry. Keep the ADA elements separate from the decorative ones so the fabricator handles each to spec. See the ADA sign requirements guide for the tactile and braille figures.
Frequently asked questions
What does a monument or dimensional sign vector file need?
Clean closed paths at the sign's real size, fonts outlined, with the routed, raised, and applied elements on separate named layers. Dimensional letters and logos are cut and formed straight from those paths, so the outline quality is the finished quality. A raster or auto-traced logo has to be rebuilt as clean vector first.
Why does dimensional signage need layered vector files?
A monument sign is built in parts — routed faces, raised letters, an applied logo, a backer — often in different materials. Putting each element on its own named layer as closed paths lets the fabricator route, cut, and mount each correctly instead of untangling one merged outline.
Do monument sign files need to be built at full scale?
Yes. Build the art at the sign's actual dimensions so nothing is scaled or guessed at the router, and so proportions and letter spacing are judged at real size. Keep type outlined so the fabricator's tooling reproduces the exact shapes.
Is kerf a concern on routed monument signs?
It can be, wherever pieces are CNC-routed to fit. The cut compensates for the tool width, so the file should account for kerf where parts mate — the same principle as any routed sign. See the DXF kerf compensation guide for the offset details.
Can VectorWiz prep monument and dimensional sign files?
Yes. We redraw the art as clean closed vector at full scale, fonts outlined, layered for routed, raised, and applied elements — production-correct for fabrication. Standard turnaround 24 hours, Rush 12; send the sign spec with your order.
