SAi Flexi (FlexiSign) opens vector files such as AI, EPS, PDF and DXF and sends their paths to vinyl cutters and print-and-cut printers. For cut vinyl, every shape must be a closed path, with text converted to outlines and no overlapping duplicates. For print and cut, keep the cut line as a separate path in a named spot color such as CutContour, and give the artwork a little bleed.
Formats Flexi opens
AI, EPS and PDF are the usual handoff to a sign shop running Flexi, and DXF works for simple line work. The file must hold real vector paths; a raster placed inside an EPS or PDF can be printed but not cut.
For cut vinyl
- Every shape a closed path; open paths cut as lines or not at all.
- Text converted to outlines.
- No duplicate shapes stacked on top of each other.
- Overlapping shapes of the same color merged, so the cutter doesn't cut inside the letters.
- Nothing thinner than the vinyl can hold once weeded.
For print and cut
- The cut line as a separate closed path in a named spot color, commonly CutContour.
- Bleed on the printed artwork beyond the cut line.
- The spot color kept as a spot color, not converted to CMYK.
Why traced logos cause trouble
